Experience Summary
As a chemistry graduate student, I have held the following roles: Senior Teaching Assistant for Undergraduate Organic Chemistry Labs, Teaching Assistant for Organic Chemistry Major's Labs, Teaching Assistant for Organic Chemistry I and II. I have extensive experience in tutoring; however I specialize in organic chemistry due to my background and teaching style. I have tutored individually, in groups, and even whole classrooms. I have substituted as a teacher for organic chemistry professors. I have excellent communication with my students and I have only had one student receive a grade lower than a C in organic chemistry while I've tutored them.
Teaching Style
My teaching philosophy centers on individual learning. The first priority is to determine what method is best for getting an individual to process information. The second step is then to breakdown the material and removing the myth that a traditionally challenging course is simply a "myth" and depends solely on the effort given by the student. I utilize a variety of methods (models, flash cards, simplified mechanisms, acronyms, etc) that help simplify the complex material that is presented in lecture. I truly believe that every student has the ability to pass organic chemistry and any course when appropriate attention is given, especially through proper tutoring.
