My comments on tutoring Poetry : I have 33 years experience as a high school English teacher.

I have taught English at the high school level for 33 years, both in public and private school. Currently, I am an instructor for a GED class. I team taught with a special education teacher for several years and encouraged the private school where I taught to hire a special education teacher at the high school level. I have taught all levels of English, from vocational English to low level students to honors students.
I particularly enjoy one-on-one teaching; I also enjoy asking students questions to draw from them the knowledge they are seeking.

My teaching style is prescriptive, student based. I teach based on how the particular student can grasp and understand what is being taught because students have their own methods and mental tools to open themselves to what is being taught, so that they learn. I have most of my experience working with English language learners. Over the past year I have worked with English language learners that came from varied backgrounds such as, university aged Korean students, adult Russian speakers, adult Ukrainian speakers, and adult, middle, and elementary aged Spanish speakers. I really enjoy speaking other languages, which is why I majored in Linguistics and French. I received my TESOL certification in Querétaro Mexico this summer where I also studied Spanish and became rather proficient.
