My comments on tutoring Poetry : I have 33 years experience as a high school English teacher.

I particularly enjoy one-on-one teaching; I also enjoy asking students questions to draw from them the knowledge they are seeking.
I have taught English at the high school level for 33 years, both in public and private school. Currently, I am an instructor for a GED class. The variety of my experience gives me a wonderfully personal approach to each student. I have taught Sunday School to all ages of elementary students and have also helped young children appreciate the wonder of learning as I taught them kindergarten basics. I have taught English as a foreign language to adults and children in both group and individual settings. During my last two years at Shorter University, I was employed by both the Shorter University Writing Center and the Shorter University Periscope (the newspaper). I spent those two years tutoring students on the composition and structure of essays, and helped them edit and proofread their work. As an editor for the newspaper, I was a mentor to all of my staff writers, as well as a contributor myself.
I believe that the best way to teach a child or student is by listening to them first. By understanding what they see in the subject, I am able to put what they need to learn into perspective for them. Patience and a great listening ear is the best approach when it comes to communicating the right instructions.
