I've had experience teaching English as a second language and tutoring experience teaching math, language and science. Teaching math is much different than doing math. Although I have a Bachlors in Mathamatics from Northern Illinois University, my training from The Pi Group in Singapore Math Instruction is really what sets me apart. The U.S. ranks 25th in the world for Math Education. Singapore is consistently first or 2nd. Students build a deep understanding through the use of muniplulatives and pictorial representations. When students think they are "bad at math", it is usually an issue of the instruction they are receiving. I especially like working with students to chance this perception they have about math and themselves. I can also speak to my experiance working with children with ADHD. Singapore Math moves from the concrete to pictoral to the abstract. Students develop understanding instead of rote memorization.

I have successfully completed a Beacon tutor course in preparation for individual and group tutor sessions. I led a semester long Beacon tutoring supplement course in Organic Chemistry that supported 20 junior college students. I have effectively tutored/mentored a number of high school students in general education coursework, organizational skills, and in preparation for exit examinations. I have conducted community based math group sessions for junior high and high school students. Finally, I have supported 1st and 2nd grade elementary school students in math and reading comprehension.
