I am a graduate of Chico State with a BS in Computer Science and I was a student of their honors program. I was not a formal tutor, but I spent a lot of time with junior classmates helping them to understand their projects and meet their deadlines. After graduating, I worked as an instructor at Mendocino College. I taught computer science classes to young adults from different backgrounds and with different learning styles. A Little Bit About Me...

I have never been someone who "just gets it" when it comes to math or science, and so I understand more than many people who pursued degrees in these subjects just how puzzling they can be. Math seems like it is filled with "tricks" that seem impossible to know unless you were born with some innate gift. When I teach, I seek to show, step-by-step. how to think about a problem as more than a set of symbols on paper. I seek to impart the critical thinking skills that reveal why those tricks aren't tricks at all, but are instead a natural part of the grammar of math and science.
I graduated from Duke University in 2009 with a triple-major in Biomedical Engineering, Economics, and Mathematics. I have tutored in Economics and spent four years mentoring middle-schools students in Engineering as a Techtronics Fellow.

During my years at UC Davis I achieved a high level of excellence inside and outside the classroom, majoring in Economics with a minor in Communication as well as earning All-America Honors in Intercollegiate Golf. The best word to describe my teaching is flexible. Students learn concepts in different ways. When each quarter begins and I hold my first discussion, I always start off saying that this time is the student's time. If my teaching style does not work with everyone let me know. If they want more example problems than lecture, I tell them to tell me to change it up. Also, if there is a hard concept to understand I try to explain it in multiple ways that get the same point across, in case someone does not understand it in one way, but may in another.
The number of years teaching and tutoring is a fuzzy area.
