Experience Summary
Teaching math is much different than doing math. Although I have a Bachlors in Mathamatics from Northern Illinois University, my training from The Pi Group in Singapore Math Instruction is really what sets me apart. The U.S. ranks 25th in the world for Math Education. Singapore is consistently first or 2nd. Students build a deep understanding through the use of muniplulatives and pictorial representations. When students think they are "bad at math", it is usually an issue of the instruction they are receiving. I especially like working with students to chance this perception they have about math and themselves.
I can also speak to my experiance working with children with ADHD.
Teaching Style
Singapore Math moves from the concrete to pictoral to the abstract. Students develop understanding instead of rote memorization.
