Changing The World, One Child AT A Time

I was an assistant teacher to a 3rd grade class at Wilson's Mills Elementary from 2001 until 2003. My duties included assisted the teacher and helping the students in a manner to help them learn at their pace. And I also have an 8 year old son who attends River Dell Elementary. I help him on a daily basis with his homework, which includes math, reading and writing. I love kids and it brings great joy to my life to see the smile on their faces when they learn something new, or figure out the answer to a problem they are working on.

Shortly thereafter I took a position working at a beach resort in Pensacola, FL, where I spent an entire summer instructing surfing, kayaking and sailing. The Omega School, an alternative hiigh school that occupied a few rooms in an an old office buiilding, helped high risk students who couldn't fit into a regular high school environment obtain their GED. As the oldest of three children, I have informally tutored for many years. A Little Bit About Me...

For my first experience in teaching, I worked with both high school and elementary school students who were learning disabled and in need of help. I used the Orton-Gillingham method for dyslexia and found that it really seemed to work well to suit the student’s needs. From there I went on to work two years in resource rooms working with middle school and high school students in a one-on-one and group setting for intense tutoring.
