After completing my undergraduate degree in English Literature at Florida State University, I worked as a substitute teacher in Hillsborough County for two years. In 2009, I completed my Master's Degree in Communication at University of South Florida while simultaneously employed at the Department of Special Education. Once while subbing, I entered a classroom where the students had been allowed to watch Jerry Springer on TV for the last two weeks. I prefer to work with motivated students. I enjoy one on one tutoring best, but I can work in a group setting. I think I am best at explaining concepts verbally. Particularly when I tutor math, I like to explain the reasoning and concepts behind what I am teaching, rather than encouraging rote memorization. For SAT and ACT prep, I think it is primarily a matter of explaining the structure of the test and teaching ways to address different questions.
