A Little Bit About Me...

After twenty years in the financial area I went back to school to obtain a special education credential and found a passion for teaching. While in school I worked as a teacher's aide at Seaside High School, and taught 5th grade summer school for two years. After completing my education course work I received a contract with Monterey Peninsula Unified School District and taught at Los Arboles Middle School. My middle school students had varying disabilities. The focus in my classroom was to determine what each student needed to succeed.
It is important for me to determine what motivates each student to learn, what their interests are and what is important to them. I am a speech and language pathologist with a Masters Degree in Communicative Disorders. I have 6 years working in the public school setting with elementary and middle school students. As a special education specialist, I have had the opportunity to work with children with various needs such as language deficits, learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, etc. I have been an active member of a multi-disciplinary team consisting of school administrators, psychologists, general education teachers, occupational therapists, literacy specialists, ESL specialists and nurses, in which each team member contributed their professional expertise in implementing an individualized education program to meet the needs of each individual student.
