After twenty years in the financial area I went back to school to obtain a special education credential and found a passion for teaching. While in school I worked as a teacher's aide at Seaside High School, and taught 5th grade summer school for two years. After completing my education course work I received a contract with Monterey Peninsula Unified School District and taught at Los Arboles Middle School. My middle school students had varying disabilities. The focus in my classroom was to determine what each student needed to succeed.
It is important for me to determine what motivates each student to learn, what their interests are and what is important to them. As the student learns higher level skills, adult guidance is slowly phased out in order to achieve independent functioning. I work with each student's unique abilities and strengths in order to maximize their potential.
