Florida Writes Tutoring

Florida Writes is an assessment of writing proficiency which incorporates the assessment of higher order skills, since students are required to generate and develop the ideas that form the basis for their written responses. Looking for help? Select a tutor today. Beginning in 2010, each essay was scored by one rater. In previous years, two raters were used and the scores were averaged. Prior to 2010, a student could have received a half-point score, such as 4.5; whereas since 2010, no half-point scores are possible. Additionally, beginning in 2010, each student within the same grade level was required to write an essay using the same mode of writing (narrative, expository, or persuasive). Florida Writes can be challenging. Make a difference with a tutor today.

My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school. I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me. I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it. In two weeks of many meetings, she was able to pass her final exam. No matter what grade I was in, I always enjoyed going down to the ESE room and helping the special kids. I did what ever I could to help.

Taught state test writing preparation for many years in Massachusetts public alternative schools. Tutor extensively to prepare students for state and college exams. I believe that all students can and will achieve academic success given appropriate instruction; i.e., instruction that is differentiated according to students' specific needs, learning styles, interests, and personal goals. As a classroom teacher and as a personal tutor, I have seen almost miraculous results in a relatively short period of time, both in terms of academic achievement and student confidence. Passion and enthusiasm for learning is contagious, and I am a carrier. For a dedicated instructor, nothing is more satisfying than watching a student "catch" the learning bug. After attending (and teaching in) a graduate program in American/British Literature and Language at L.S.U., I realized that my true calling wa

Upon enrolling my children in school, I decided to be an active part of their education. So, I assisted their teachers with everything I could. Eventually, I became a trusted part of the school system (an honorary teacher, so to speak). They began giving me more responsibilities, concerning the children of the school. I tutored hundreds of students to increase their FCAT results, single-handedly; I corrected documents, daily; I worked on setting up the computers for the teachers and students, and I trained both to use them. I even learned magic, so that I could help teach the students their studies, in a fun and exciting way. Previously, I opened my own computer shop, and thus, I had a tremendous advantage of all sorts of software, and Internet knowledge, that would help educate the students. Since I had an ADHD student at home (my son,) I was quite active with the ESE program. I helped

My career in education has spanned over 17 years and has included teaching in Special Education and regular education. I have a BS Degree in Special Education and a Masters Degree in Education. I have taught from preschool age to high school age in both Florida and New York. I am certified permanently in New York and held previous certification in Florida. I have also tutored in homes and in the public schools. I especially enjoy tutoring, as the environment and teacher-student ratio is much more conducive to student success. Because of my background in Special Education, I have learned to adapt curriculum to the individual levels and learning styles of my students. I have also learned that there are many creative ways to make learning more inviting for students. I have adapted many subjects to games and activities that students enjoy while learning. I have a patient spirit with stu

I have strong desire and passion to work with children! I have a very positive and enthusiastic approach using differentiated instruction, Kagan Cooperative Learning strategies, and Bloom's Higher Order Thinking. I make learning fun for all children by finding out what interests them and develop my lessons around that. As a student at the University of South Florida, I was required to complete three levels of internships. In my last internship, I was in complete charge of the class. I used assessments to plan my lessons, seeing if I could go on to the next lesson or needed to review. I am a very enthusiastic teacher, and I have had several of my interning teachers, students, and cooperating teachers tell me that I make learning fun. In addition to my BS degree, I have had experience tutoring co-workers and friends in high school algebra and college algebra. Lastly, I am a basketball/voll

I am currently enrolled in a graduate program for counselor education. I have a Masters in Education from Harvard University and have been teaching high school English in Westchester County, NY for the past three years. During my time as an undergraduate, I developed and supervised the tutoring program for the Minority Student Education Guild, which offered free tutoring to underprivileged students in the Gainesville area. I have had extensive tutoring experience in reading comprehension and writing at all levels and have also tutored students from elementary through early high school in math and science. Over the years, I have worked with students in developing study skills and test taking strategies to promote their success in and out of my classes. Through my experience I have developed my own techniques. I recognize the importance of individualizing instruction for each student.

Teach a man to fish...is for life. Tutoring is the same, especially with younger children. I haven't met a student yet who is unable to learn. My job is to find the method that will best enable students to self-actualize their learning. A success is converting the child's approach and passion for learning. If I helped to change the child's mind about learning, I have literally altered the course of his/her life in a positive way. I have a versatile background that began with two business degrees and progressed to a professional career in purchasing and sales. I discovered along the way that my true passion was teaching and I can be more effective in a tutoring one-on-one situation than a classroom setting. I am highly proficient and have tutored nearly all subjects and grade levels.

I love working with children and seeing them get excited to learn new information. I feel that all children are very capable of learning, just some need that extra one on one attention that is not possible to receive in a classroom setting. I love that look on a child's face when they finally grasp a new concept. By helping a child learn you are really changing their future. Even though I hold a business degree I have always had a love for working with children. As a college student I worked for two different families as a nanny, where I assisted a total of five children with their school work and projects among other things. After obtaining my BS in Finance from the University of Central Florida I went on to get married and work in a bank. It was shortly after that when I realized that my real passion was with children. When I became pregnant I left my banking position to be a st

Apart from baseball, my second love is education. I feel that every student has the ability to grasp a subject or a certain idea. It is all a matter of finding out how that student learns. My main style of teaching is threw the Socratic method of dialogue and real world examples. However, I am very open minded, patient, out going, and I am not satisfied with doing things one-way. There are many different ways to climb a mountain but it is important to know the most productive. After graduating from Jacksonville University with a BS in Business Administration, I joined the field of professional baseball. I have been playing professionally in the Tampa Bay Rays’ organization for the past 5 seasons. During my off-seasons, I have been working for the Sarasota School Board as a preferred substitute mostly at Sarasota Middle School. I have taught in every subject at the middle school l

I love teaching and working with all children. I became a teacher because I know that it is sometimes hard for children to learn. All children learn in different ways and speeds. I am patient, and understanding. I will not give up on any child they are our future. I believe that all children can meet their potential if they are given the riht tools and education. Children need to find out who they are and what they want from life. I want to make a difference in all of my students. I am a graduate of Concordia College and C.W. Post Univ. both at school in NY. I have a BA in Elem. Education and a minor in music Ed. I have my Masters in Special Ed. I have taught students first starting at the preschool level. I have taught elementary students. For 7 years I have tutored Special Ed. Students at the High School level and younger. These classes were English, Math Science,History and

If I could say that there was something I was meant to be, I would say that I was meant to be a teacher. Of all the experiences in my life I have found the most satisfying right after being a father is being a teacher. Everyone including students want to feel successful. I also believe that success is a great motivator for learning. I gear my teaching around mutual respect and then find a level of work where the student can have immediate success. Students respond to teachers who they feel are personally invested in their success. The teacher I most admired from my middle school years was not patient, easy going or considerate, yet I achieved at a high level because I knew that he cared. Upon graduating from Queens College I obtained a position as a middles school science teacher in New York’s Spanish Harlem. After 2 ½ years of dealing with extremely difficult and dangerous situations I

My teaching style is serious, but fun. I want students to know that I care about their success and believe they are capable of doing great things. I am a very caring, very patient teacher. I like to build motivation in my students, as well as a desire to become a life-long learner. I teach many learning strategies, but emphasize students to learn how to activate these strategies at the right time. I am very passionate about my profession and take it seriously, but still make learning fun. I taught two years of Intensive Reading and worked with students who scored a level 1 on Reading FCAT. My students made remarkable gains on their scores, many earned a grade-level score in Reading on the next test. I have also taught elementary and high school students as a tutor and test prep coach. I enjoy working with students of all ages and helping them reach their goals and succeed.

I taught public school in Florida from K-12 for the last 16 years. I taught for more than 10 years in the private school. I am still teaching part-time at a private company. My passion for teaching and the diverse subjects and levels of students that I have taught are two of my great assets that can be very useful in the tutoring profession. I teach to help my student reach his or her highest potential. Depending on the subject I use a highly academic and focussed style of teaching. If it is communication like English, Writing and Journalism , I use a lot of teacher-generated materials. I am very flexible and would like to meet the needs of a particular student by administering some kind of a skill inventory survey to identify his or her style of learning. An inventory of his interests and skills will also be a good tool for me to assess the student's strengths.

I have my professional certification in Elementary K-6 and Physical Education K-12. I recently taught Kindergarten and I have more than 30 years experience working with children of all ages. Along with teaching I have twice owned my own school and been the Director of many schools and summer camps. My strength has always been teaching Mathematics and I am taking the certification test next week. One of my gifts with working with children has always been the ability to relate well with them. I know what motivates children and have always shown patience and understanding. I have always tried to have children learn while having fun and try to give them multiple experiences because not all children learn in the same way.
