Experience Summary
Upon graduating from Queens College I obtained a position as a middles school science teacher in New York’s Spanish Harlem. After 2 ½ years of dealing with extremely difficult and dangerous situations I decided to move on to take various careers in industry. In 1985 I became the field service representative for NEC America. As a field service representative I traveled around the United States giving seminars to electronic technicians on how to service and repair NEC’s cellular equipment.
In 1989 with the birth of my first child I became a full time Mr. Mom. When my two children were old enough I returned to teaching as a Varsity Soccer Coach and Substitute Teacher in Florida’s Charlotte County Public School system. I feel very confident substituting for teachers of Social Studies, English, and Science grades 5-12.
For more than 30 years I have been studying the classical guitar. In the summers of 2004-2006 I had the good fortune to be able to study the guitar in Italy with some of the finest musicians in the world. As a founding member of GuitarSarasota I have mentored and tutored young classical guitarists.
Teaching Style
If I could say that there was something I was meant to be, I would say that I was meant to be a teacher. Of all the experiences in my life I have found the most satisfying right after being a father is being a teacher. Everyone including students want to feel successful. I also believe that success is a great motivator for learning. I gear my teaching around mutual respect and then find a level of work where the student can have immediate success. Students respond to teachers who they feel are personally invested in their success. The teacher I most admired from my middle school years was not patient, easy going or considerate, yet I achieved at a high level because I knew that he cared.
