I taught Art for grade levels from 1st through 12th grade for a private school for 3 years. Due to the economy unfortunately our school had to remove the art & p.e. program. I love working with children, and our young adults. I believe art to be a subject matter that should not be left out, as it helps our children grow in other academic areas. When we alow our children to be involved with art we are teaching them to think outside the box, and become a more well rounded person. This in turn teaches them to think more openly about thier other subjects, and develope a brodder understanding of problem solving. As an Anthropology major, I was qualified to work as an archaeologist with the Joshua Tree National Park for 7 years. I was responsible for site recognition, recording and records keeping. I also interacted with the public as an employee of the park. I also led my own tour groups, all ages and abilities, into the desert for historic and nature tours. My first student teaching experience was in a preschool. The classroom was very play based and not very structured. I learned how to communicate with the students while they were playing and was able to help them learn through scaffolding I learned how to model positive behaviors to the children and stay away from the negative. I student taught in a preschool classroom. This classroom was inclusive and included many different kinds of learners. There were ten gifted children, two children with autism, one child with epilepsy, and the rest who were at benchmark. As a Merchant Marine and Chief Steward I have taught, tutored, or mentor kids of all ages and backgrounds. My passion when teaching is to try and breakdown the subject to it's most basic level. A level that the person being taught can understand. Having work with kids from different ethnic and educational backgrounds I find this to be very affective and productive.
