I think educators must take into account the different ways in which students learn. For instance, I've noticed that math students may have difficulty adding and subtracting fractions, but have no trouble whatsoever when I ask about dimes and quarters. If an instructor can build a bridge between new material and material the student has already mastered, the student's retention can significantly improve. I have tutored as a self-employed tutor in French, and my student was ahead of her class for the beginning of the next year. I have also weekly taught two classes at two elementary schools in French. I have been to Québec, Canada, two of the past three summers, in which I had a great immersion to a degree in the language.
