Experience Summary
I began tutoring at the age of 13. I was hired by the Los Angeles School District of California as an after school student tutor. Through out high school and college I was a member of several community service clubs that took part in community outreach tutoring in elementary, middle, and high schools. In 2001 I began working as an SAT tutor for the University of California, Irvine's Early Academic Outreach Program. I conducted after school (7th period) classes that included up to 20 students as well as individual one-on-one tutoring. In 2004 I was hired as an Educational Therapist working with a child psychologist and providing academic support for students with varying abilities. As an Educational Therapist for the Center for Learning and Behavioral Solutions I had the opportunity to work with children with ADD, ADHD, Autism, as well as other special needs. I have worked with children ages 4-18 both individually and in a group/class setting in several subjects some of which include, Spanish, handwriting, reading, elementary math, study skills, and college test prep.
Teaching Style
I thoroughly enjoy working with children and youth and having a positive impact in the life of others. I am an advocate of civil service and believe in the importance of giving back to a community that gave to you. I find great satisfaction in utilizing my talent and ability to teach and contribute to society. I pride myself in being a life-long learner and thus my teaching style evolves as I gain experience. I believe that teaching requires the use of various teaching styles to meet the learning needs of a group, but tutoring involves a more direct and individualized teaching style tailored to the pupil. I look forward to learning about my student's needs to better help them learn from me.
