Experience Summary
I have most of my experience working with English language learners. Over the past year I have worked with English language learners that came from varied backgrounds such as, university aged Korean students, adult Russian speakers, adult Ukrainian speakers, and adult, middle, and elementary aged Spanish speakers.
I really enjoy speaking other languages, which is why I majored in Linguistics and French. I received my TESOL certification in Querétaro Mexico this summer where I also studied Spanish and became rather proficient. As a linguist I understand language at a very primary level and can explain complex concepts using simple but not “watered down” language.
Teaching Style
I think all people are learners whether they are in a classroom or not. As a teacher I like to use hands on interactive methods that put the student at the center of the learning.
I am patient and fun while still maintaining a professional decorum with my students. I like to find out why my students want to learn what they are studying and I like to challenge my students to learn because I think that a self-motivated student is the best kind. If students find the will within themselves to learn there is no way to stop them and with my help and guidance I believe they can reach their full potential as learners. Also I love questions! Questions are the seeds of learning.
