I' ve been working for about 18 years with students from Kindergarten through 12 grade in the Petaluma Schools District in the city of Petaluma, California. I've had experience teaching English as a second language and tutoring experience teaching math, language and science. Since I've worked in a classroom setting as a Bilingual Instructional Assistant, I have acquired a lot of experience from a diverse teaching styles. Nowadays, I am working at the High School level tutoring students in Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Science and English. I would describe my teaching style in terms of the activity, belaying. Slack is given to the rope at times so that the climber may advance, or traverse, the face of the mountain. When the climber feels tired, or incapable, the rope needs tightening so the climber stays secure. If the climber falls from the face of the mountain the taught rope will prevent injury or possible demise. I tend to give my students slack when I feel they are advancing in terms of curriculum, yet once I notice their tendency to rest, or falter, I tighten my teaching approach by using more straightforward methods so that they are not confused, or do not wear themselves out with struggle.
