A Little Bit About Me...

As an Education major graduate I am driven to challenge and reinforce students in order to obtain a high level of performance. In college I achieved a triple minor in English, Psychology and Science. I did this with the intent that strong content knowledge will greatly affect student achievement along with excellent teaching strategies. I have had experience teaching all grade levels and have taught in several different schools. My career has taken me from Canada to the UK and now to the States. I understand that all children learn differently and I am able to adapt my teaching style to fit the child. I am both patient and positive and I like to give the student confidence. My goal is to not only help the child learn, but to also give them a sense of confidence. It is important that each student believe in his or herself as well as their capabilities.

A Little Bit About Me...

The majority of my teaching experience occurred when I was in college. I was studying to be a social worker and worked part-time in the library. I also worked as a Sociology Teacher's Assistant and tutored other college students in the core science class. In Zimbabwe, I spent a summer teaching Bible class, tutoring special needs children in all subjects, coaching a girls field hockey team, and running a weekly youth program called AWANA. In PA, I tutored elementary school students in reading and math in an inner-city after school program. I hope to tutor elementary school students in reading, math, or other basic subjects. My teaching style is based on the premise that students want to learn and succeed. At times they are blocked in that endeavor by the level of difficulty, the complexities of a lesson or personal obstacles. It's my job as a tutor to find out what that hindrance is and help the student overcome it. I vary my teaching style based on the needs of the student.
I'm a journalist by trade. My love of writing began at an early age. A bachelor's degree in Theater immersed me in the works of Wiliam Shakespeare and from there I became fascinated with history and living history at that. I then obtained a Master's degree in Journalism to expand my skill set in both the English and Spanish languages. I have extensive experience working with bilingual students of all ages in the subjects of English-grammar,composition, literature. Spanish-grammar, conversational. History- World, Latin, American.
