I am a certified Business/Technology teacher. I am currently teaching at Urbana High School. In the past, I have taught 5th-8th grade Spanish, Mathematics and high school level Spanish I, II, III. As a holder of a Bachelor's in Social Work, I have a great deal of experience mentoring and tutoring students of various ages and abilities. I have worked with adult learners and high school age students with disabilities. I have a strong background in English and Grammar due to an extensive amount of college level paper writing. I maintained a 3.8 GPA throughout my college years. I like to take the "mystery" out of the subject. Math can be especially scary to students who don't have a strong foundation in general mathematics and reading comprehension. I am currently volunteer tutoring an adult friend in general math and I am proud to say that her understanding of the basic principles have increased dramatically in only a couple of sessions. I like to teach students how to take each problem apart into its seperate components. Once they can understand each individual component and how it works, they are able to see the entire system much more readily.

Every child can learn and children learn at different levels. A teaching style must change to meet the needs of the child because what may work for one child may not work for another. I am patient and kind with students while still being firm when teaching students. I use positive reinforcement to achieve goals.
