I like to teach hands on as much as I can, but my goal is to teach in a way that helps the learner understand. I have been teaching science at the secondary level for over 17 years. I have taught chemistry and advanced chemistry, Earth science which includes "GOMA" Geology, Oceanography, Meteorology and Astronomy. I have experience in every level of student. My first degree (A.S.) was in Engineering and I worked at higher level math, including a college Teacher's Assistant in Calculus. Teaching is very subjective. Each individual learns according to his/her own style. What I find challenging and rewarding is to find that point where it “clicks”. I believe the best way to learn is through experience and discovery. As an example, I can describe the intelligence of an octopus. But until you actually see a video of one opening a jar for a treat, do you truly realize it as a thinking, planning being.
