I work with individuals who are interested in discovering their own strengths and possibilities for advancing in their grade school, collegiate, or career path. With extensive experience training and developing students and professionals in many industries, I have a very unique perspective to offer individuals and students. As a tutor, my goal is to facilitate the brilliance in individuals that they may not see so easily. People have the capacity to learn when they are curious, capable, motivated, and above all, passionate to reach their highest potential. My goal when working with students is to fully describe the steps necessary to solving various classes of problems, often in an outline form, for it is in learning these steps that a student becomes an independent learner. I like to work through as many examples as the student needs, gradually working them into the problem-solving process, until they are able to work a few completely on their own, or, in some way, demonstrate understanding of the material. Of course, this method is a little easier to employ in one on one tutoring sessions, but even with my work in the classroom, I feel student participation is crucial to the learning environment. While in college (1988-1994), I worked as a grader in the math department, with a goal of providing useful feedback to the students. I also began working as a tutor at Austin Community College (ACC) in their free learning labs at this time.

I've always had a love of learning, and have naturally slipped into an informal tutor role with friends. During high school I took several AP tests and at the same time earned the International Baccalaureate diploma, so I understand very well the pressures involved. My two bachelor's degrees (Computer Science & Engineering) give me a strong foundation in math and science. I have experience as a teaching assistant for undergraduates. In addition, for several summers I participated as a volunteer in my public library's reading program, working one-on-one with children of all ages. I feel quite confident in English thanks to my habit of recreational reading and writing, along with extensive experience writing papers, reports, and the like. I firmly believe that you learn best when you're having fun. Once a topic fascinates you, your mind automatically engages more, which helps you rememb

I have always had an interest in math and science, and I got my start tutoring in high school by helping fellow classmates and friends in these subjects. I went on to earn my BS in Mechanical Engineering from U.T. Austin. I have also spent much of my life in the world of music and began teaching beginner piano lessons several months ago. If the subject matter is analytical and involves numbers, I can certainly help you figure it out. I enjoy working with children of all ages, but particularly excel with more mature students trying to tackle more difficult subject matter. One of my greatest strengths is helping people understand abstract, technical material by simplifying the concepts and using analogies that the student can relate to. Often times we create a barrier because something seems like it should be hard. I make it my goal to break through that barrier by reducing the subje
