Throughout my teaching and tutoring career, I have often found that I can help my students achieve beyond what was expected of them. At the end of this process, my biggest joy is to see my student successfully working on the tasks without my assistance. I have taught elementary school in private and public settings, in both New York City and Florida. I taught high school English and Global Studies in New York city. I have worked as a tutor in general subjects for elementary students, as well as for Reading, Language, and Biology for high school anc dollege students. My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : I have always believed phonics is the key to reading and have taught it for many years. In the past 15 years I taught ABEKA phonics in my classes and have seen students learn to read quickly.

I have enjoyed very much working with children and I know that every student has his own learning style and my teaching must be adapted to them. I am patient, even with children who do not speak fluent English and I seek to encourage them to seek success. My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : I was horrible in phonics when I was young. Wish is why I am very passionate about helping children learn to read. There is a learning sequence to be followed, with a strong emphasis on letter sounds to help children be successful. Sorting and phonics games are used often with my students as well. I have lots of experience in this area (K-2).

My training was based on accepting the child where he/she was and to provide developmentally appropriate activities that were hands on and based on the needs and interests of the child. In a classroom, I would differentiate activities to engage all children whether they were visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners. In tutoring sessions I can easily personalize each lesson to the child's learning style and needs. I begin by assessing where the child is at, build on what they know, and create new challenges to move them to where they need to be. It is so rewarding to watch them grow into confident learners.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : Certified K-6

I try to serve as a facilitator of learning, providing students with the knowledge and tools to solve problems and then encouraging students to solve them on their own. When students answer a problem incorrectly, I do not allow them to quit. I try to encourage them to figure out where they went wrong and to keep working at the problem until they get the correct answer, providing support and guidance where needed
