Don't tell me 2+2=4. Tell me WHY 2+2=4.

Although I wish I could count the endless amount of time I spent playing teacher as a child, I know parents are looking for more expierence than an eight year old and her dolls. I have tutored children, ages ranging from eight to fourteen, off and on for three years. Geometry is one of my top subjects!

I have taught internship classes and tutored statistics at the University level. I have tutored mathematics from elementary to calculus at a junior college. I believe anyone can learn. Some may have to work harder at it than others. With others you may need to find different approaches but anyone can learn. In my classrooms I teach the individual students not the class. The biggest challenge for a teacher is giving the students the confidence that they can learn. Teach a student how to learn and he will learn anything he wants to.

A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children, as I have coached or tutored school aged children for the last six years. This has taught me to be very patient as well as given me the ability to approach a subject from three or four different angles until the student gets it. I often ask many questions in an attempt to get the student to come to conclusions on their own, rather than me telling them outright. Over the past year I have tutored through The College of Idaho's Chemistry Club. Chemistry, especially the math portions, never came easily to me. I had to work hard and spend hours asking professors questions, but now I am much better at chemistry because of it. As a tutor I wanted to help fellow students who were struggling as I had.
Just telling a child how to do a problem is not effective. I believe a teacher needs to explain the logic and reasoning behind solving certain problems certain ways.
