My teaching style is customized to each student's needs. Because all students have different learning styles my instructions are patterned to maximize that student's particular style. After evaluating each student with a baseline test, goals and objectives based on the state's/district's curriculum are determined. My style is setting high but realistic expectations with rigorous assignments. I also try to have an overdose of encouragement and make the learning session fun time for students.
Teaching has been my last career change. My prior experience has been in the field of manufacturing, maintenance engineering services and construction management. For a period of five years, I offered tutoring services to students at the University of Chapel Hill, Duke University, and North Carolina State University. My ability comes from experience...I was not entirely prepared for college when I started, and had to work much harder to successfully complete my degrees. I believe that this has given me a great insight into what students really need, especially as schools continue to do a less than perfect job of preparing students for the future.
The goal of my approach is to enable students to have a level of ownership in learning concepts and ideas. I have earned a bachelor degree (BS) in Chemical Engineering, and an associated in Biology. I was also a Chemistry major at Kennesaw State University before I transfered to Georgia Tech. My love of science and math which has enabled me to gain an understanding in many areas, but to also share this love of math and science with the students I tutored. In addition, I have learned extensive grammatical skills due to writing research papers and laboratory reports, along with essays in many various areas of study.
