Prior to offering piano lessons out of her residence in Waxhaw, North Carolina, Brittany Smith studied classical music for over 15 years all the way through advanced musical literature – 9 of those years being under the professional instruction of Valerie Chamberlin. In 2008, she graduated from the Certificate of Merit with honors through the Music Teachers Association of California. In her years of study under the MTAC, Brittany also participated in Bach Festival Competitions, a Composition Competition, Baroque Festivals, Honors Recitals, and Certificate of Merit Exams. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always had a passion for education and learning. I have always excelled in mathematics from elementary to collegiate levels. I LOVE math. I love to do math and I love to teach math. I was even on a math competition team in middle school. I have a strong statistical background from my Psychology studies and have taught Middle Grades Math to 8th graders. I taught Standard 8 Plus and Algebra 1 to 8th grade students in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School system. I also tutored Psychology students in Statistics at the collegiate level during my time as a teaching assistant.

I enjoy working with all children and getting to know them individually. As their teacher, I try to guide the students’ learning while focusing on their needs and goals. I am patient and respectful when I present new information to them and as we “work it out” together. I also try to encourage them to become motivated learners by showing appreciation for their efforts and providing plain but empathetic feedback. I recognize that children have different learning styles and may respond best to different approaches. A Little Bit About Me...

I love working with children and adults of all ages. I have taught preschoolers and adults. I am patient and attend to the student's individual needs. No lesson is the same for any one student. My goal is to teach the subject material and also make the experience enjoyable. Music takes a lot of practice and repetition which brings about the foundation for quality music education.
I am a well qualified music teacher. My teaching experience has been in the classroom and privately. I earned my BA in music and was trained vocally for six years in sacred and secular styles of music. I also was trained for fourteen years in piano. More recently, I have taught piano and voice privately. I am experienced with the organ and saxaphone as well.
