A Little Bit About Me...

I have always been a driven student, especially in math and sciences. I first discovered my passion for teaching when my high school friends started asking me to help explain chemistry problems. Later in high school, I tutored my first student in chemistry. I continued my scientific education in college and graduate school, earning a BS, MS, and PhD (2008) in chemistry. During graduate school, I served as a teaching assistant, helping professors in undergraduate chemistry courses by providing close student interaction. I supervised students in 5 laboratory courses (Basic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, and Instrumental Analysis) and lead discussion sections for 4 General Chemistry courses. A Little Bit About Me...

I have 9 years of experience in teaching chemistry and physics at the high school level. Additionally, extensive experience teaching/tutoring a myriad of other subjects, such as, earth science, algebra, trigonometry, biology, CPR/first aid, GED prep and various adult education classes. I also have 15 years of practical laboratory experience as a laboratory chemist with increasing levels of responsibility.
To teach is to "impart knowledge or skill to somebody by instruction or example" while education is defined as "to develop mentally, morally, or aesthetically especially by instruction". My teaching philosophy and primary goal is to first understand and appreciate each child for their unique abilities, strengths and weaknesses, then to channel those abilities toward a better appreciation of the practical value of science and math knowledge. At Bridgewater State College I started tutoring general chemistry and organic chemistry in the Fall of 2006. I am receiving my degree this May, and have already been accepted to a few PhD programs in chemistry. I am looking for a tutoring job or jobs for the summer, and possibly for longer. I have tutored small groups of five to eight students for chemistry. I have tutored general chemistry, organic chemistry, and chemistry in everyday life, which is a course for non-chemistry majors.
