I have always been a driven student, especially in math and sciences. I first discovered my passion for teaching when my high school friends started asking me to help explain chemistry problems. Later in high school, I tutored my first student in chemistry. I continued my scientific education in college and graduate school, earning a BS, MS, and PhD (2008) in chemistry. During graduate school, I served as a teaching assistant, helping professors in undergraduate chemistry courses by providing close student interaction. To teach is to "impart knowledge or skill to somebody by instruction or example" while education is defined as "to develop mentally, morally, or aesthetically especially by instruction". I aspire to be an educator, as defined above. While I believe in the content of the sciences, I am interested in evoking the thought process to utilize the scientific method as a problem solving technique applicable to all areas of life. I strongly believe that all students can find success as long as they work for it, and are encouraged to reach their goals. I am very patient with my students, and allow them to really think about the problem and work toward a workable solution. In my small group sessions I will usually present an example and have the students work on it while I go to each student to make sure they are understanding the problem. A Little Bit About Me...

Subject material can be confusing and very intimidating. I speak from experience. When I tutor students, I ask where they feel they need the most help and where they are doing well, to help them with their uncertainties and increase their confidence. Instead of just giving the students the answers, I will show them where to find the answers. Once the student works out the problem with I, I instruct the student to try a similar problem without my help, to deepen their grasp of the material, and to show them they can do it. Sometimes, all a student needs is a reminder, and everything comes together.
