I am a retired college/university professor, and have been tutoring actively for the last six years (privately, as well as in a mentoring program at a community college). Teaching children takes patience and creativity. Each child is different in their attention span and interests. Making each subject important and interesting is one place to start. It is crucial to never let a child give up, and not to give up on them yourself.
