A Little Bit About Me...

As a student at Rollins College, I had the opportunity to serve as a peer mentor to a group of first-year students. I also worked in the writing center and as an editor for a literary journal. My studies in anthropology and experience writing an honors thesis on homelessness taught me to think critically and holistically. I have worked as a summer camp counselor for teenagers (June- August 2008 and 2009) and then as co-director of the camp (2010), a role in which I worked with campers ages six to seventeen. I love teaching children using hands-on and interactive techniques. I am also a personal trainer in my spare time so I try to incorporate moving into lessons because I think children work well when they can move around and really apply what they are learning to something they really like to do. I use technology constantly in my teaching and have found that my students really apply themselves more when they enjoy the fun that learning brings!

A Little Bit About Me...

I like to motivate my students by providing background knowledge and examples of application in the world outside of textbooks. I think it is important for students to create an emotional experience to ensure that knowledge will be stored. I implore traditional methods, as well as research-based approaches that connect to students audio, visual, or kinesthetic learning styles. My idea of a perfect classroom is one in which all students are actively involved. I believe in encouraging students to work together to create their own understandings of the subject matter and how it relates to their lives.
