I am a graduate of Tennessee Temple University, with experience tutoring at Tennessee Temple University, as well as University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, in various topics, including biodiversity, mathematics (up to pre-calculus), history, and American Sign Language. Looking to take younger students to the next level

Hello, my name is Alan Reyes. I am a 19 year old college student attending the University of Florida for a BS in Physics and Astronomy. I have been playing chess for 5 years and have placed first in my section in the Jacksonville Open and two years running in the Sunshine Summer Opens 2013 and 2014. I also placed first in my section at the 2014 CFCC Tornado in Orlando. I am currently rated USCF 1705, based on 24 games. From my experience as a tutor, confidence plays a big factor in the student’s ability to learn. When I am with a student, I constantly make sure that I am encouraging him/her and letting them know that they are doing a great job. Typically when I tutor a student, I go over the basic concepts and go over problems. I teach them what to look for and techniques used to approach any problem. Once they have built up that confidence in identifying an approach to a problem, I let them do one on their own. A Little Bit About Me...

I decided at the age of 38 to attend college and earn my BA of Education degree. I have worked with and coached young people most of my life on a volunteer basis. Teaching has always been one of my passions. I have worked with students with learning disabilities in my eleven years of teaching. I have taught all the core subjects from grades 3-12. My favorite subject to teach/tutor is math. I enjoy seeing my students progress in their learning.
I like to challenge my students to reach their potential. I realize there is a fine line between challenging and frustrating my students. I like for my students to figure out math problems on their own as much as possible. My teaching style is to model new material, do guided practice, and independent practice.
