I have completed all requirements for a Master of Arts degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I have taught mathematics, computer applications, life skills, and other subjects at high school and community college levels in Colorado. From my experience as a tutor, confidence plays a big factor in the student’s ability to learn. When I am with a student, I constantly make sure that I am encouraging him/her and letting them know that they are doing a great job. Typically when I tutor a student, I go over the basic concepts and go over problems. I teach them what to look for and techniques used to approach any problem. Once they have built up that confidence in identifying an approach to a problem, I let them do one on their own. Essentially, I hold their hand through a problem until they feel confident and then I let them do one on their own.
