I allow my teaching style to mold itself to each individual student, finding methods of communicating the information that best suit the learning style of my student. I really like working with children from low income families. I think each child has a different interest and way of learning. I try to discover these learning styles before I begin the tutoring process. I try to allow them to be comfortable and having fun during our sessions. Most of the time I do a lot of question/conversation responses to allow them to find the answer for themselves. I like a problem based learning style, even for the youngest of children. I have taught preschool education 2-4 years old. From my experience as a tutor, confidence plays a big factor in the student’s ability to learn. When I am with a student, I constantly make sure that I am encouraging him/her and letting them know that they are doing a great job. Typically when I tutor a student, I go over the basic concepts and go over problems. I teach them what to look for and techniques used to approach any problem. Once they have built up that confidence in identifying an approach to a problem, I let them do one on their own.
