I believe that listening is a key to helping a student succeed in a subject matter that may not come easily to them. Building on a child's strengths and trying to find a "way in" that makes sense to them is a good strategy. Using creativity and "outside the box" approaches to learning can help a child access their latent abilities. A Little Bit About Me...

I have spent 12 years volunteering as a tutor at the elementary school level. I have helped students in the areas of reading, writing, and math. I worked with a number of great teachers who taught me ways of reaching students to help them gain increased skill levels. I have also been playing piano all my life and have taught beginning piano. Music brings me joy and I love sharing that joy with my students.
I pride myself on being a very patient, caring person and love seeing children learn and have their eyes opened as to the possibilities that are there for them. As a student in Health Science, i.e. Medical Technology, I worked in a genetics laboratory for 14 years learning lab instrumentation, trouble-shooting, cytogenetics and professional etiquette. Lectures as well as public presentations of newly discovered genetic abnormalities was my passion. I truly enjoyed preparing and presenting these exciting talks.
