I am a dedicated professional who is passionate about helping students achieve academic success. This past year, I spent time as an SES Lead Tutor after school and in-home and tutored (Reading - phonics based - and Math) many children in grades K through 7th that held IEPs. I believe that each child learns at their own Pace and if they are tested, the gaps in their education will appear. Once these gaps are addressed, they can move forward with their peers. You must find out what works for each student and use that method to make learning fun. I believe in step-by-step hands on with a lot of practice. I would love to continue to have a positive impact on all students when it comes to Math and share with them the love that I have.
I started out as a Computer Instructor and enjoyed teaching computer classes but something was missing. I saw that my children was not getting the educ ... read more

Pre-Algebra is one of my top subjects! This and Algebra I are my two strongest areas. I consider "pre-algebra" to be the same as the cumulative middle school course called "8th grade mathematics" as opposed to "math" which I would consider "elementary math." When I got certified to teach in Virginia, this was my focus! The reason: This is the foundation for all math that follows--including Algebra I. If you learn how to problem-solve and other basic skills that enable to you take what you know and apply it in situations that might look slightly or significantly different, it enables you to effectively problem solve as you continue to further your education. On the contrary, if you can't work with negative numbers or do basic mathematics life skills, you tend to struggle getting any more advanced concepts because you

I have real-world experience in the United States Army--both enlisted and officer. I have real-world experience in corporate America. I completed roughly 300 college credits, so I know how to succeed in school. I taught math for a year-and-a-half in public schools. As part of my teaching, I have spent countless hours tutoring after school.
I prefer to be a facilitator. I believe in the "give a man a fish and you feed him for one day, teach the man how to fish and you feed for a lifetime." I can give you what you need to know; but I prefer to help you learn how to solve problems yourself. By giving you the tools to use what you know to solve problems, you can have the ability to figure out solutions to problems that haven't been seen before.

My comments on tutoring Pre-Algebra : As I am very well knowledgeable in Algebra , pre-algebra is also a subject that I am familiar with.

Have tutored for five years with Wyzant, Tutoring Center of Herndon and on my own. My main concern is too make sure student is confortable in his/her understanding the subject material. The money part of the education of young people is really not a priority per se unless the individual student gets an understanding and hopefully confidence in taking on the subject at hand I tutor mainly in Math (Algebra, Geometry and Trig, but also Accounting, social studies, Finance, English , Reading Comp, Vocabulary
Laid back but serious as student learning subject matter is the most important factor in yuoring.

I discuss in length the whole topic first and then try to ascertain students understanding level on the topic. Then I try to prepare a personalized strategy for each student based on his/her grasping ability. This usually involves teaching those topics again, giving home assignments to students, periodically conducting unit tests and assessing them. I undertake quiz sessions to keep a track on student's progress. I make sure that my class environment turns to be interesting for the students by maintaining a friendly approach. I have a good knowledge of mathematical problem solving shortcuts which I try to pass on to my students and I have found that this really interests even the struggling students and they feel more confident and develop flair for the subject eventually.
I have a Masters in Mathematics and another Masters in Education. I am an experienced qualified teacher with ... read more

Pre-Algebra is one of my top subjects! I am very skilled in Algebra, I completed Algebra I & II in high school as well as college, and received very good grades. I feel confident that I could tutor this subject.

What I try to do first is get the student to work out the problem, and as they are doing that I will work the problem as well. We will go over our answers together so I have a chance to explain the problem to the student. I believe that repitition and practice makes perfect as long as you have someone to explain it along the way. I will thoroughly explain the problem to the student if they don't understand it. By the end I would hope that the student could then explain how to do the problem to me.
I am now a sophomore at Germanna Community College. I have taken Algebra, Biology, English, Contemporary Mathematics, and various psychology courses. I am continuing to take more math and science classes. As a high school student I took Algebra I and II, Biology, Duel Enrollment English, and various other courses. I have received high grades in the classes I have mentioned. I feel that th ... read more

If allowed by parents, I will provide incentives and treats to motivate the children and lead them to a brighter future.
Session A includes biweekly sessions with two nights to complete assigned homework (up to one page). Session B includes weekly sessions with three nights to complete assigned homework (up to one page).
