Algebra I is one of my top subjects! I have specific teaching experience with Algebra I. I believe Algebra I is the foundational course for all other mathematics. It is even used in Geometry. Because I was certified to teach Algebra I in the state of Virginia, I could have probably called myself an expert. Others (students and teachers)have said that I make math easy to understand. Still, I believe there is always more to learn, so I will just call myself "experienced," instead. There are many people who know math, and are incredibly smart, but have no (or very limited) ability to help others learn what they know. I'm not one of those. My strength is facilitating the learning of others. I am flexible and can come at topics different ways, because I only teach what I thoroughly understand.

My comments on tutoring Algebra I : I am very versed (if that is the word) in both Algebra 1 and Algebra2

Have tutored for five years with Wyzant, Tutoring Center of Herndon and on my own. My main concern is too make sure student is confortable in his/her understanding the subject material. The money part of the education of young people is really not a priority per se unless the individual student gets an understanding and hopefully confidence in taking on the subject at hand I tutor mainly in Math (Algebra, Geometry and Trig, but also Accounting,social studies, Finance, English , Reading Comp, Vocabulary
Laid back but serious as student learning subject matter is the most important factor in yuoring.

Then I try to prepare a personalized strategy for each student based on his/her grasping ability. This usually involves teaching those topics again, giving home assignments to students, periodically conducting unit tests and assessing them. What I try to do first is get the student to work out the problem, and as they are doing that I will work the problem as well. We will go over our answers together so I have a chance to explain the problem to the student. I believe that repitition and practice makes perfect as long as you have someone to explain it along the way. I will thoroughly explain the problem to the student if they don't understand it. I want to make this learning journey safe and fun while providing individual attention to the students. I will begin with a placement test and experiment for the first few sessions to see how your child learns best (games, visuals, etc). The sessions will take place in the Ashburn Library for extra supervision and the safety of the children.
