A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with my BS in CSD and am now going for my Master's. I have worked with children of all ages specifically in literacy, writing, and speech. I am comfortable teaching up to and including Algebra,any history, and elementary school science.
I don't just want to regurgitate information to a student; I want them to learn. I allow them to try to complete and assignment, and if they ask questions, I think of the child's learning style. How they learn affects how I explain it to them or how I show them. If they are having trouble understanding, i will model their question and answer it correctly. I will ten ask them the differences between the two. I am very patient, easygoing, and I give praise often.

I have been teaching, volunteering and tutoring for 25 years. I owned an in home child care and wrote all the curriculum for 10 years. I have taught "Train the Trainer" classes for teachers in preschool and elementary school. I have worked for over a year with SES programs tutoring at schools, in homes, in the evenings and weekends. Personally, I enjoy everything about education. I believe that if you can educate a person, then doors are opened for them. I am the type of tutor that gives basic instructions, then I allow the student to try a few things on their own. If they struggle, then I will step in and help them. I prefer to go over the same material as much as needed until the student is comfortable with the subject matter. Then, I like to move on to a new subject.
In relation to the tutoring position, I have a year of experience in tutoring grammar school students in math and reading. As a graduate student at Mississppi State University, I was a teacher assistant for 2 years in Introduction to World Geography. These are the only two jobs I have had that are related to job that I am applying for.
