I don't just want to regurgitate information to a student; I want them to learn. I allow them to try to complete and assignment, and if they ask questions, I think of the child's learning style. How they learn affects how I explain it to them or how I show them. If they are having trouble understanding, i will model their question and answer it correctly. Personally, I enjoy everything about education. I believe that if you can educate a person, then doors are opened for them. I am the type of tutor that gives basic instructions, then I allow the student to try a few things on their own. If they struggle, then I will step in and help them. I prefer to go over the same material as much as needed until the student is comfortable with the subject matter. Then, I like to move on to a new subject.
In relation to the tutoring position, I have a year of experience in tutoring grammar school students in math and reading. As a graduate student at Mississppi State University, I was a teacher assistant for 2 years in Introduction to World Geography. After graduating from college, I traveled overseas to teach children in a teacher shortage area. There I taught every subject for second grade, middle school English, pre-algebra, 3rd grade history, and drama. Upon returning to the States, I worked one on one with students in 4th grade who needed extra help in reading and math.
