I love to work with children of any age. I have been volunteering for over 15 years helping wherever and whenever I can to help make the lives of children more enriched. I have two boys of my own (age 10 and 14) and have been successful in helping them achieve the best they can. I have been teaching kids as a substitute for many years and went back to school in my middle 30's to become a teacher. Unfortunately the availability of teaching positions in my area has prevented me from full time employment but I've kept myself busy subbing and working with young adults and those with disabilities further their educational needs. I have spent my life working towards degrees that would help me to give my life meaning. I have earned a B.S. and M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology, as well as, a bilingual extension in Spanish. Since I also love healing through nutrition and energy work, I've earned degrees in Health Counseling and Reconnective Healing. As I continue to learn myself, I hope to inspire people to do the same! As a music student at SUNY Fredonia, one of the finest institutions for music in the Northeast, I gained a great deal of experience in music, but also in the liberal arts. SUNY Fredonia is an institution that specializes in well-rounded students. I have written several research papers, which have developed my keen knowledge of spelling, grammar, citation requirements, and writing techniques. Most recently I worked in the Buffalo City Schools as a full time teacher for School 81. I was hired to increase fluency scores in the 3rd grade classes. My success rate was 82.5%. That was in a 9 week turnaround. The following year 2008 2009 I worked with at-risk kindergartners, lst and 2nd graders in remedial reading. Prior to Buffalo, I worked with Special Education in the Pittsford Schools. Prior to this experience I substituted for 3 school districts. In 2007 I received my Masters Degree in Literacy while working full time. I have also tutored students individually through the Home Hospital Services of BOCES #1 from 2000-2003. At that time, I was also tutoring students up to the 7th grade. I like working with children. They are so appreciative and excited when they learn and figure out a new word or anything. I am easy going and very supportive. GIven a good learning atmosphere, good support, encouragement and enthusiasm and children can learn. Everyone learns in different ways; in a one-on-one situation that can be discovered and lessons designed to best help the child. I finished my degree by going to summer and night school; I graduated in 1979. I was the first in my family to go to college and I am very proud of that. I have become a much better writer and am much more aware of grammar through writing reports, technical papers and SOPs.
