A Little Bit About Me...

I love to work with children of any age. I have been volunteering for over 15 years helping wherever and whenever I can to help make the lives of children more enriched. I have two boys of my own (age 10 and 14) and have been successful in helping them achieve the best they can. I have been teaching kids as a substitute for many years and went back to school in my middle 30's to become a teacher. Unfortunately the availability of teaching positions in my area has prevented me from full time employment but I've kept myself busy subbing and working with young adults and those with disabilities further their educational needs.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have spent my life working towards degrees that would help me to give my life meaning. I have earned a B.S. and M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology, as well as, a bilingual extension in Spanish. Since I also love healing through nutrition and energy work, I've earned degrees in Health Counseling and Reconnective Healing. As I continue to learn myself, I hope to inspire people to do the same!
I have been working with children ever since I can remember. I love to engage in creative activities with children while helping them utilize their strengths to overcome their limitations. More About This Tutor...

I have a strong belief in a strengh based interview before I ever start teaching/tutoring a student. This gives me an idea of HOW the student learns, which "intelligence" he most readily learns by (from Gardner's Multiple Intelligences). I have had experience in all grades form age 3 to age 17 and have three grown children. My "style" is very science and music based as those are my two strong intelligences which fit beautifully with reading in particular. But, I adapt and teach to the initelligences of my student who may not have the strong base of either science or music interest. I am very capable of determining those strengths through my assessments, obervations, and interviews. My "style" is lovingly firm.

I like working with children. They are so appreciative and excited when they learn and figure out a new word or anything. I am easy going and very supportive. GIven a good learning atmosphere, good support, encouragement and enthusiasm and children can learn. Everyone learns in different ways; in a one-on-one situation that can be discovered and lessons designed to best help the child.
I finished my degree by going to summer and night school; I graduated in 1979. I was the first in my family to go to college and I am very proud of that. I have become a much better writer and am much more aware of grammar through writing reports, technical papers and SOPs. For a couple of years I volunteered for Literacy Volunteers because of my love of reading.
