Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I am hard of hearing and I have used American Sign Language my whole life. ASL is my second language, used when I attended school and when I hung out with friends. I went to a school that offered ASL as a class and I took three years of ASL, skipping the first year. I was in the American Sign Language honor society and I graduated with the Laurent Clerc medallion. I signed the National anthem at school football games, and at my own graduation with a couple of other students as well. While in the honor society, I was required to go to an event and sign there, I signed a couple of shows at the Florida Aquarium.

I am a very hands on type of teacher/tutor, I will have a white board and marker with me at all meetings. I am avid about 'Voice-off' since it's the best way to learn ASL. I like to do games as well since ASL is very expressive and the best way to learn it is to do it. I don't like textbooks.
I am hard of hearing with about fifteen years of sign language experience. American Sign Language is my second language, and I use it everyday. I can help tutor any level of ASL. Although I learned sign language when I was young, my high school offered ASL and I took the class. I skipped ASL 1 since I am already experienced in the language. My senior year of high school, I was in ASL 4 and we were combined with ASL 1 to help tutor and teach. My comments on tutoring Sign Language : I am Deaf and American Sign Language (ASL) is my primary language while spoken/written English is my secondary language. I am able to teach you the sign and interact with you to be able to learn ASL in faster pace than just learning from the book. ASL is a beautiful language, no doubt about that.

I'm a freelance web and graphic designer and currently contract with a few companies such as Attractionseeker, ASLpolis, and a few other agency. I have been freelancing for 5 years and currently seeking full time employment at creative agency in Cincinnati, OH. Aside from freelancing, I am currently a president of North Central Deaf Club and provide rich experience of using ASL and aim to provide positive experience for everyone who is Deaf, hard of hearing, or hearing regardless of their experience with ASL.

My comments on tutoring Sign Language : I have taken 2 semesters of ASL at the college level and frequently interact with the local Deaf community in Lakeland, FL.

I have tutored 1 student privately in Spanish for 2 years, and she went from failing her class to passing both the AP and IB exams with a 5 and a 6, respectively. I have also tutored small groups in Spanish for one semester ranging from high school introductory level to AP level. I have also tutored for one semester of ASL at the college level, and one semester of Japanese at the high school introductory level.
I aim for all tutoring to be done in the target language, but I recognize that this is unhelpful for many students. Nevertheless, I will start out only using the target language, but will switch to the students' preferred language upon request.
