My teaching philosophy centers on individual learning. The first priority is to determine what method is best for getting an individual to process information. The second step is then to breakdown the material and removing the myth that a traditionally challenging course is simply a "myth" and depends solely on the effort given by the student. I utilize a variety of methods (models, flash cards, simplified mechanisms, acronyms, etc) that help simplify the complex material that is presented in lecture. I wouldn't have a "professional" description for teaching style as my education was solidly based in the sciences. However, I believe that by teaching intuitive thought processes and critical thinking skills, students can easily adapt to the tasks given be they in science or liberal arts.
While planning for a career in medicine, I obtained a BS in biology with a minor in Chemistry. During the application and acceptance process I was an adjunct faculty member at a local technical college. My courses taught were remedial Algebra, biology, and anatomy and physiology. During the hours between classes I was a paid Tutor in the college's learning assistance center.
