As a 2010 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, I was very much driven to achieve a high level of excellence in education. I was President of our local Kentucky Education Association and Chair of our Student Government Association. I have earned two bachelor degrees, a Bachelor of Arts in Religious Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, which has enabled me to have a wide variety of experiences. My teaching style varies depending on the age and needs of the student. When I worked with younger children, I often made up a game to help the children learn the material while having fun. Even with older children I tried to make learning interactive and suit their personality. I also varied the amount and type of aid given based on the student’s needs. While I do think learning should be suited to the individual, I do require that the student focus entirely on studying during the tutoring session. I work best with pre-school, kindergarten, and first graders and have had lots of experience with Spanish speaking children. I consider myself a hands-on teacher. I believe that all children can excel in the right learning environment when given opportunity to experience and experiment with learning tools. I love using music to teach reading and math. Most children just need someone to be kind, patient and understanding. I am a kinesthetic learner myself, so I have found that when a child can use their five senses and involve their whole being, learning comes much more easily and quickly.
