Experience Summary
Since graduating from college, I have pursued further education through supplemental education. While working, I have attended classes in the evenings to keep current with teaching trends, practical classroom skills and the social-emotional needs of children in learning.
For 8 years, I was an instructional assistant, but also substituted and served as an after school tutor. For the past 5 years, I have been a pre-school teacher with Migrant Head Start. Spanish was the home language of all the students in the classroom and, as teachers, we used both languages. I feel qualified to teach pre-K or first grade Spanish speaking children and to teach Spanish to pre-K or first grade English speaking children.
Teaching Style
I work best with pre-school, kindergarten, and first graders and have had lots of experience with Spanish speaking children. I consider myself a hands-on teacher. I believe that all children can excel in the right learning environment when given opportunity to experience and experiment with learning tools. I love using music to teach reading and math. Most children just need someone to be kind, patient and understanding. I am a kinesthetic learner myself, so I have found that when a child can use their five senses and involve their whole being, learning comes much more easily and quickly.
