My comments on tutoring Pre-Algebra : Retired secondary classroom teacher after 32 years in public education. Currently teaching at several SAT/ACT College Prep Businesses in Plano, Frisco, Argyle, and Denton.

I am a retired classroom teacher after 35 years of teaching experience in public education. I currently teach at UNT and NCTC. I have taught Pre-Algebra, Algebra I, Geometry, regular and Pre-AP Algebra II, regular and Pre-AP Pre-Calculus,Trigonometry, and SAT/ACT Prep. I have tutored students in preparing for SAT, ACT, TAKS, TASP, THEA, and STAAR Tests. I have coached several UIL Mathematics and Number Sense teams that have won at the District level and proceeded to Regional and State Competition. I was the District Teacher of the Year for Aubrey ISD in 1995 and have been selected to Who's Who Among America's Teachers for two consecutive years.

I am junior at UNT Denton and currently work as an AVID high school tutor at Fossil Ridge High School in Keller, TX. I primarily tutor sciences such as biology and chemistry but I am also proficient in basic math classes. I used to be a chemistry major so I am very strong in general chemistry. I have always had a passion for learning, and helping others learn. In middle school, High School and College, other students came to me for help with assignments. Knowing what it is like to be a student, I try to see from the students point of view. Each student teaches me their own way to learn. I enjoy learning and hope that I can share that joy with others.
My degree in Engineering has given me plenty of experience in math and science. I have also had graduate courses in Physics and Engineering. As a graduate student at UNT, I instructed several physics and astronomy labs and learned first hand what teaching can be like. I have learned most people achieve best in a fun and interactive environment. Learning games, role modeling, flash cards, art, and music are a few tools that are used. Another important component is trust and teamwork. Once students know you have their best interest at heart, trust is built. In a one-to-one situation, a teacher must emphasize teamwork.
I have a BS from LeTourneau University in Business Management, and have more 48 college hours in Science, English and History. I have been accepted in an Alternative Path to Certification program with A+ Texas Teachers.
