I teach by the book and assigned homework. The main goal is for the student to do well in the course and the first step is to understand the material in the book and to complete all of the homework assignment. That tests are usually based on what was assigned in the homework. The student should do as much of the reading and homework as they can on their own then go over areas where they have problems or questions with the tutor. I can help them work out the problem areas and discuss the subjects with them.
I had 10 courses in accounting as an accounting major and took 5 courses in economics even though only 3 were required becuase I liked economics. My student improved from a second grade reading level to a fourth grade reading level in that time. I currently volunteer with the Lawyers for Literacy program as a reading tutor for third graders preparing for the FCAT. In my current job, I feel I am a strong trainer because I am able to determine people's learning styles. By determining their style, I am able to train them in the way that they will learn more quickly. In tutoring, I would have the skills to determine how the child will learn the information. Some children might work better by watching someone else solve the problem while explaining the steps. Some might learn by just reading a complete step-by-step process. Some students may want to try the problem on their own, and then explained where they went wrong. They may also want a combination, by doing the problem themselves while the tutor talks them through. I started ten years ago as a ESOL teacher aide in an elemetary school. I worked there for two and a half years. Then, work as a bilingual clerical assistant for at the PIC for a year. After that, I worked as a teacher assistant, teaching Spanish in another elementary school. Finally, I worked for three year in a part-time school, teaching Spanish from Pre-K to 10th grade.
