My comments on tutoring GED : Qualified in this subject by WyzAnt. I acted as a volunteer with Career Central, Spring Hill, FL assisting applicants preparing for GED examinations in 2012. I also assisted students in GED preparation with R.S.V.P. in Burlington VT.

In my teaching, I make every effort to engage the attention of my students. While covering the subject at hand, I bring into my lessons references to a spectrum of other subjects when relevant such as historical context, cultural elements, literary allusions, modern and historical implications and facts and trivia relating to the subject which I believe will not only be of interest to the student but will also provide a more rounded appreciation of the benefits of a wide ranging education.

I have taught elementary school in private and public settings, in both New York City and Florida. I taught high school English and Global Studies in New York city. I have worked as a tutor in general subjects for elementary students, as well as for Reading, Language, and Biology for high school anc dollege students. I have also helped prepare adult students for the TABE, GED, and similar tests.

Literally all my life I have been asked by students, parents and teachers to help students who were having trouble. I get tremendous fulfillment from watching someone who has been frustrated finally "get it." In addition to teaching music lessons, tutoring all subjects, and homeschooling my own two children, I have worked for the last 17 years with a private school. In terms of teaching style, I believe that different students require different teaching styles and techniques and I attempt to vary and utilize those based upon the specific needs of the student. As a more specific comment related to the teaching of Accounting/Finance, I believe that modeling Accounting techniques works best with the majority of students and that the adage "practice makes perfect" is particularly applicable in the Accounting arena. It was required that I take Education in a Multicultural Society in college, which peak my interest in education. I began tutoring students and found it very exciting to see students learned and comprehend an assignment or lesson that they were having some difficulty with. I allow the person to ask questions in a fluid, spontaneous, "let's see as we tackle this together" manner. When something is not understood, I try to give analogies, examples that the person can relate to. I also may explain the subject matter in a more simplified, methodical fashion. As a college athlete I always have been encouraged to help out the community. Because of my high level of math, I knew that I could really help others learn the material in a fun way. Math is something that has always been easy to me, and I have completed through calc 1,2,3 and Differential Equations. I scored in the top 96 percentile in arithmetic based math on my ADHD testing in 2006. I volunteer as a baseball coach with kids at all ages and skill levels so I am fully aware that different kids learn at different levels in different ways.
