I remember my first tutor in junior high. He helped me gain an understanding beyond just the numbers and the formulas. From his example, I started tutoring friends as a sophomore in high school. Since graduating from Eastern Oregon University, a college known for its education programs, I have dedicated most of my adult life to teaching. I have a BS degree in secondary education with endorsements in advanced mathematics and health education. I have taught students in various settings throughout my career and have become able to adapt to different learning environments. I have taught students in grades 7 through 12 as well as adult learners preparing to earn a GED certificate. Most of my teaching through the years has been in mathematics, but I have also taught a number of other subject through the years.

Knowledge and skills are most permanent when we discover and create for ourselves, so I like to be a guide that leads the student to their own conclusions, rather than take over and lecture. I will be there to direct and support the student; I like when the student works at the board or on the paper instead of me, so that they retain what is being taught.
