As a current tutor of the Rochester Public School system in Minnesota, I understand and work with students in K-12 grades. I enjoy a variety of teaching settings. Whether it's a large lecture hall or one-on-one tutoring, I find the challenge of finding the best, most effective instructional methods to be very rewarding. In general, I believe that promoting critical and creative thinking through hands on, problem-based learning is a strategy that leads to student success. As a graduate student in Evolutionary Biology at Texas A&M University, I worked as a teaching assistant in undergraduate ecology and zoology labs. I found this experience to be very rewarding and went on to pursue a MA in Instruction. Since completing both graduate degrees in 2008, I have been teaching undergraduate biology at Winona State University.

I have a natural talent for being a leader/teacher and have been complimented on my ability to reach out to youth. I like to teach through “hands on” approach, practice and problem solving. I love to see the children’s progress through time and their feeling of confidence when they have mastered a skill your teaching. While in college I worked a number of years as an after school program classroom lead for two different school districts in the twin cities area.
