A Little Bit About Me...

I am a disciplinarian. I have an excellent ability to gain a students attention, keep it and the results of my students have been well above average. I have a knack to bring into the classroom, outside events (latest ball games, Olympics, etc.) to establish a 'bond' between myself and the student. This allows me to gain their confidence as well as not create a bored atmosphere. I find this very important, especially with the more difficult students.
As seen from above, I have valid tutoring experience in both middle grades and HS. I was in the student teaching program at Wake Forest and upon graduation, I was a substitute teacher in the Winston-Salem, Forsyth County School system. I also participated in the Junior Achievement program in the Piedmont NC region for over 5 years. I am currently a tutor with the "No Child Left Behind Program."

I recently graduated and am working part time for a lab while I am continuing my education to get certified as a teacher. I hope to get a position as a biology teacher next year and tutoring would be a good way to get a bit more hands on experience teaching.

I believe that a successful instructor is one that can appeal to the senses of the students through methods that tweaks their interests. I have tutored and assisted many students throughout various classifications of academic levels in their development of reading, comprehending, and writing. Albert Einstein states, “Education is not what you learn, but what you remember after you learn.” My method of tutoring is not to overload rapid facts and information, but simply to assist individuals in discovering newer and broader ways of expanding and absorbing interesting techniques in verbal and nonverbal expressions as well as other basic skills.
My years of extensive involvement in school and community service activities along with my academic success have all played vital roles toward instilling my value of a higher education. Through out my academic history, I have always excel in ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Having spent 20 years in the Information Technology field, I recently made the decision to change careers to pursue a life-long dream of teaching. I began college as an education major, but due to life circumstances, changed direction and entered the IT field. As programming is math and logic oriented, teaching math is a natural extension of my skills and experience. I am currently working towards gaining licensure as a middle school math teacher. I enjoy working with children of any age and have tutored friends of my own child.
Children have many different learning styles, and as an educator it is my job to discern which approach works best for each individual. In teaching math, I believe that all children learn best with a hands-on approach. Providing real-world examples and manipulatives that children can pick up, touch, and move around should be used at all levels – from ... read more

More About This Tutor...

While in college I spent a year working as a writing tutor at my school's university writing center. After graduating cum laude with a degree in communications (and with a minor in English), I taught English as a foreign language for a year and a half in Chad, Africa, as a US Peace Corps volunteer. Following that, I substitute taught for a year at Saints Peter and Paul High School in Easton, Maryland(2006-2007). For the 2007-2008 school year, I taught eighth-grade language arts at Saints Peter and Paul Elementary School.
I enjoy helping students reach their potentials as learners. I try to connect with the students I teach and cater to their individual learning styles. Working with an interested, capable educator can dramatically improve a student's performance. My teaching style is relaxed, patient and insightful. It is my goal to help students improve themselves by mentoring ... read more

I love working with and teaching children of all ages. I believe that each child is unique and is capable of learning in his or her own unique way. As a teacher I do my best to discover how each child learns, and tailor my lessons to fit them so that the student gets the maximum amount of learning out of the lesson. I believe that with perserverence and a little bit of self esteem, any child can be successful.

A Little Bit About Me...

I teach with the assumption that everyone can learn anything. At the core of my teaching philosophy is the mental model or concept. Consequently, my first goal is to determine if the student has a mental model of the subject matter. If not, I will guide them in discovering a useful one using their existing models and their preferred input mode (tactile, visual, etc.). If a student does have a mental model then I will test its accuracy using the standard procedures approved and or recommended by the institution of enrollment. Further encounters are then simply for reinforcement until the student is confident.
Over several years as a teacher, tutor, and teaching assistant I have had the privilege of refining my teaching strategy. For example, as a physics tutor, I coached a high school senior who was intimidated with the subject how to master it using a simple reproducible foundation ... read more
