I love teaching children. I enjoy getting to know how each child thinks and works, and finding the best way to teach them in a way that is meaningful and gratifying. My approach is usually very methodical, and I believe a strong foundation allows for a deep and thorough understanding of the subject at hand. I consider my working relationship with my students to be a team effort, one that requires their input and communication as well as my own. It is very gratifying for me to help my students begin to realize their own potential, and to help them learn to cultivate that in a way that reaches far beyond any one subject. In that way, I believe I am able to make the most useful difference for all of my students. I have always been a curious person and even as an adult I enjoy learning. As a result, I have a passion for sharing my knowledge and experience with others. As a teacher, I am encouraging, supportive, and patient. I think it is very important to tailor teaching methods to the individual student because people learn in different ways. I don't believe in one-size-fits-all education, and I like to use my creativity in lessons to help keep learning interesting. I earned my BA in German with a minor in music. My interest in the German language began as a child when my mother took a military assignment to Germany. In addition to the three years I lived there with my family, I completed a study abroad session during college and returned two years later as a Fulbright grantee to teach English in a German school. In total I spent six years in Germany and am quite fluent in the language.
